SYRACUSE, NY – November 21, 2016 – The Go Nuclear Late Model Series officially completed its 2016 season with its annual championship banquet in Syracuse, NY on Saturday. Over $25,000 in cash and prizes was awarded to drivers in attendance.
A $20,000 point fund was presented to the top-10 drivers in series points for the 2016 campaign. An additional $5,000 was split among the Loyalty Club drivers who achieved 75% or better attendance at events this season.
Charlie Sandercock officially received his championship accolades for the second time in series history. Sandercock turned in an outstanding season with five series victories in 10 races.
Brandon Mowat, who finished second in series points, was also awarded the Most Improved Driver award presented by Adam Nayler Plumbing. Mowat improved from sixth in 2015 while earning his first career series victory at Humberstone Speedway in July and later earned two more wins for a season total of three.
Chad Homan, who made his debut in Crate Late Model racing this season, finished seventh in series points and earned the Rookie of the Year award presented by Mrs. Bs Stay and Play. Veteran driver Norm Mayhew, who followed the tour full-time and finished 10th in series points, received the Hard Luck Award presented by Excel Tower Service.
Niagara Falls, Ont. driver Sam Pennacchio was awarded the Most Sportsmanlike award while Charlie Sandercock’s No.57 team earned Pit Crew of the Year.
Over 65 door prizes were given away to the drivers, teams, supporters and officials in attendance. All who attended the year-end gathering received at least one gift.
Each of the top-10 drivers was in attendance to receive their awards, with the exception of third-place finisher Phil Potts who remained home to deal with a family medical matter. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Go Nuclear Series family are with Potts and his family at this difficult time.
